WATER PIPING AND PUMPS Distribution Systems 1 Introduction In this TDP module we will cover major topics associated with chilled water piping, and to a limited extent, hot water piping. We will discuss the three types of piping systems and the four basic piping distribution designs used to supply and return water to HVAC hydronic equipment.
The cooled water is then returned to the chiller to absorb more heat energy and repeat the cycle. In essence, the condenser water system connects the chiller to the cooling tower through supply and return piping. Water cooled in the tower is "supplied" to the chiller, which adds heat to the water and "returns" it to the tower.

When the cold liquid refrigerant reaches the evaporator (the interface between the return chilled water and the refrigerant loop) it absorbs the heat from the return water, which occurs because at this point the refrigerant temperature is lower than that of the return water.
